“I CHOSE LIFE AND I WILL CHOOSE IT AGAIN” NSE IKPE-ETIM talks about her fertility…

At an event tagged “Conversation with Nse” Nollywood actress, Nse Ikpe-Etim recently opened up on why she has not had a kid and why she is not going to be having one because she removed her womb.

She further explains that she was diagnosed with Adenomyosis, a medical condition whereby the inner lining of the uterus breaks through the muscle wall of the uterus. She reveals that she knew about this medical condition that prompted her to remove her womb three years ago.

She said, “I was told I couldn’t have kids. And so, I had to have a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) to make me have a life again and to stop going through what I was going through. And I am literally telling women and men. It really doesn’t matter if you can’t bear children. What really matters is what you would do for the world, for the universe.”

“When I was first told by the doctor that I would have to remove my womb to life a normal life, tears dropped and them my husband squeezed my hand… it was reassuring that there was someone there and it was telling me that this is my reality, my reality. The ordeal made me fall into depression.”

“I didn’t think there was any point anymore because my society taught me that I have to be a mother to be appreciated and every time I went online, I would have on troll or two say ‘you never born?’ But I am thankful that didn’t break me”

During a televised interview, the award-winning actress further explains her fertility struggles and her opinion on womanhood.

She said “apart from the fact that, yes I do have my struggles with infertility, how about the fact that there are people who really do not want children, what is wrong with that? … you need to have conversations, we need to tell young girls that it is okay to just do you, it is okay to live, I chose life and I will choose it again”

We should be able to take a lesson or two from Nse’s story.

We applaud and thank her for sharing her story.
