Social media has been in a frenzy since it was announced that the  Ooni of Ife was getting married the third time to 25-year-old Evangelist Naomi.

Actress, Faithia Williams joined the debate about the ”double standards” she has noticed within the Nigerian society with respect to men being “allowed” to marry, get divorced and remarry as many wives as they please, unlike women who are unfortunately not given the same cheer but instead met with disdain and insults.

Faithia shared a screenshot of a meme on Instagram that read;

”Ooni of Ife marries third wife and every one is super cool with it. But imagine an average lady getting married to her third husband. Double standards?”

To which she captioned the post

”I have absolute respect for our Ooni…this post is necessarily not about him. It is about how we see and talk about women. Why do we ‘hit’ women too much in our society…we need to stop demonizing women while we make excuse for men. Selah!
