STORY OF BLUE EYED RISIKAT ABDULAZEEZ, WHO WAS ABANDONED BY HER HUSBAND

The story of Risikat Abdulazeez, a beautiful mother of two adorable girls, Kaosarat and Hassanat, who was abandoned by her husband because of the color of their eyes, has been making rounds lately on social media.

In an exclusive interview with The Punch, Risikat, a resident of Ilorin, Kwara, disclosed that she and her kids had been abandoned by her husband, Abdulwasiu Omo-Dada, because they had blue eyes. While narrating her ordeal since birth living with blue eyes, the mother of two said; “There is no one else with this kind of eyes in my family; not on my mother’s side or on my father’s side. I’m the first to have this kind of eyes. And when I started bearing children, they also have it and I did not regret that they have my kind of eyes. My eyes have never caused me any discomfort and it’s the same with my children, they have not had any issues with their eyes. I thank God…As a young girl, I was later taken to the hospital for medical examination and came back home with lots of gifts because the doctors liked my eyes. They also said there was nothing wrong with it.””

Risikat’s younger sister, Azeez Balikis, who has black eyes shared what she heard from the elders while growing up. She said; “When my sister was born, people thought she had eye problems but upon medical examination, the opticians said there was no problem with her eyes; they said she has foreign eyes.”

The 30 year old mother further stated that when her husband met her, he loved her even with her condition. My husband whose name is Abdul Wasiu Omo-Dada is very aware of the condition of my eyes and he loved me for who I am. Things started getting bad when I had my first child and later my second child. He totally changed and he would shut me up and walk out on me whenever I tried to start a conversation with him. His parents even told him, ‘Will you keep on giving birth to children with this kind of eyes?’ He changed to the extent that he would leave the house for a whole week before coming back home. There was no food and no provision that I had to go to my parents’ place to feed. After the christening, my parents asked me to leave his house. Since I left till now, he has not shown up to ask why I left or ask after me.” Risikat added that she would love for her children to go to school, get good education and succeed in life, as even her first daughter who is almost five years has never attended any school.

Risikat’s story blew up after a student of Adeniran OgunsanyaCollege of Education, Alabi Rukayat, wrote a story on their situation asking Nigerians to assist the family.

Risikat’s husband, Abdulwasiu Omo-Dada, however, said in another interview with The Punch, that contrary to his wife’s claim, he didn’t abandon her because of her blue eyes but because of her waywardness, adding that it was because of her eyes that he fell in love and eventually married her and that he never let her go hungry.
